Professional Bio

Marty Martin, JD MPA, Martin Law Firm, Raleigh, North Carolina, focuses his law practice on providing both legal and assessment, consulting, and training services to nonprofit and tax-exempt organization's boards and senior management nationwide. As a lawyer he serves as general counsel for a wide array of nonprofits. As a consultant he offers board assessments, consulting, and training for nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations. He is a frequent speaker on topics related to nonprofit organizations. He combines his unique combination of a lawyer’s skills, a nonprofit practitioner’s experience, and advanced training in nonprofit organizations to help these groups achieve their mission.

Martin served on the national Internal Revenue Service’s Advisory Committee for Tax-Exempt and Government Entities (ACT) (now “IRS Advisory Council” or IRSAC). As member of its Exempt Organization subcommittee, he advised the IRS Exempt Organization Division’s senior leadership and co-authored several reports with recommendations the IRS implemented. For his service Martin received the IRS Commissioner’s Commendation Award - the service’s highest civilian award!

Martin received a Master in Public Administration (MPA) degree with a concentration in managing nonprofit and public sector organization from the Harvard Kennedy School, a Juris Doctorate (JD) law degree from the Western New England University School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
